What happens if a truck transporting dangerous chemicals collides with a train? A fire starts in a tall building or in a mountainous area? What are the rescue procedures in different countries? What resources are available? How ready are the rescue services? What can we learn from the experiences abroad?
Answers to these and similar questions are in the focus of the workshops for civil protection agencies, firefighters and researchers from 8 EU countries within the FIRE-IN project. The workshops took place in the 2018, during which more than 80 emergency management experts from different European countries identified common capability challenges in Fire & Rescue. The experts explored the challenges through real-life scenarios such as a plane crash in the mountains or a road tunnel fire. The results of the workshops were thoroughly analysed by the project partners.
However, identifying capability gaps and challenges is just the beginning of the FIRE-IN mission. The project partners already compiled the first list of possible solutions for the gaps and challenges. The solutions range from technical innovations like drones and robots to management systems and learning tools. Later this information will be summarized and shared among the practitioners, research and industry through an innovative WEB-based e-FIRE-IN platform, which will allow faster and cheaper access to the state-of-the-art Fire & Rescue technology for the whole Europe.
The project started in May 2017 and now invites all interested parties to come and join its second Annual Dissemination workshop to share some preliminary results and give an opportunity to Fire & Rescue practitioners to network and exchange knowledge and experiences.
The Dissemination Workshop, hosted by Bombers de la Generalitat, will take place on 15 May 2019 at Espai Endesa, c/ Roger de Flor, 38, 08018 Barcelona
FIRE-IN project is set to improve national and European Fire & Rescue capability development. FIRE-IN has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme and consists of 16 partners from 8 European countries, representing research, practitioners, governmental agencies and business. Within the next 5 years the project will identify Fire & Rescue practitioners’ requirements and needs to connect them with relevant innovative technologies. The results will be shared among hundreds of experts and professional networks from the whole Europe through an innovative e-FIRE-IN platform.
